Everyday Devotions by an Ordinary Christian

My Favourite Bible Verses

You, LORD, give true peace
to those who depend on you,
because they trust you.
Isaiah 26:3

One day in the courtyards of your Temple is better
than a thousand days anywhere else.
Psalm 84:10

Sing praises to the Lord, you who belong to him;
praise his holy name.
His anger lasts only a moment, but his kindness lasts for a lifetime.
Crying may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning.
Psalm 30: 4-5

In the beginning you made the Earth,
and your hands made the skies.
They will be destroyed,
but you will remain.
Psalm 102: 25-26

When we do wrong,
that shows more clearly that God is right.
Romans 3:5

When we were baptized, we were buried with Christ
and shared his death.
So, just as Christ was raised from the dead
by the wonderful power of the Father,
we also can live a new life.
Romans 6: 4

The payment for sin is death.
But God gives us the free gift of life forever in Christ Jesus
our Lord.
Romans 6: 23

We know that in everything
God works for the good of those who love him.
Romans 8: 28

God knew them before he made the world,
and he chose them to be like his Son so that Jesus would be
the firstborn of many brothers and sisters.
Romans 8: 29

So brothers and sisters,
since God has shown us great mercy,
I beg you to offer your lives as a living sacrifice to him.
Your offering must be only for God and pleasing to him,
which is the spiritual way for you to worship.
Do not be shaped by this world;
instead be changed within by a new way of thinking.
Romans 12: 1-2

But if we judged ourselves in the right way,
God would not judge us.
But when the Lord judges us,
he disciplines us so that we will not be destroyed along with the world.
1 Corinthians 11: 31-32

He felt sorry for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd.
So he began to teach them many things.
Mark 6: 34

"It is worthless to have the whole world
if they lose their souls."
Mark 8: 36

"Whoever wants to be the most important
must be last of all and servant of all."
Mark 9: 35

God uses us to spread his knowledge everywhere
like a sweet-smelling perfume.
Our offering to God is this: We are the sweet smell of Christ
among those who are being lost.
2 Corinthians 2: 14-15

We carry the death of Jesus in our own bodies
so that the life of Jesus can also be seen in our bodies.
We are alive, but for Jesus we are always in danger of death
so that the life of Jesus can be seen in our bodies that die.
2 Corinthians 4: 10-11

Therefore I urge you who have been chosen by God
to live up to the life to which God called you.
Always be humble, gentle, and patient,
accepting each other in love.
Ephesians 4: 1-2

Live a life of love just as Christ loved us and gave
himself for us as a sweet-smelling offering and sacrifice to God.
Ephesians 5: 2

So be very careful how you live.
Do not live like those who are not wise, but live wisely.
Ephesians 5: 13

And we have the word of the prophets made more certain,
and you will do well to pay attention to it,
as to a light shining in a dark place,
until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
Above all, you must understand that no prophecy
of scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation.
For the prophecy never had its own origin
in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along
by the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 1: 19-21

Jesus said to all of them, "If people want to follow me,
they must give up the things they want.
They must be willing to give up their lives daily to follow me.
Those who want to save their lives will give up true life.
But those who give up their lives for me
will have true life. It is worthless to have the whole world
if they themselves are destroyed or lost."
Luke 9: 23-24

Whoever is not willing to carry his cross and follow me
cannot be my follower.
Luke 14: 27

God will strengthen you with his own
great power so that you will not give up when troubles come,
but you will be patient.
