A Bush in the Desert

In the Word of God it mentions a few times an expression like a "bush in a desert". He had used the "burning bush in the desert" as an appearance to Moses but a couple other times he mentions it in scripture.

For example Jeremiah 17:6
They are like a bush in a desert that grows in a land where no one lives, a hot and dry land with bad soil. They don't know about the good things God can give.

In this verse, the term "Bush in a desert" has a bad meaning. You wouldn't want to be referred to as a bush in a desert in this particular verse. It gives you the feel of isolation in a big world.

In the story of moses now, God had chosen to appear to Moses in a burning bush, in a desert. I know that this time it isn't presented as something bad but i am not sure why he had chosen to do so.

If you have a reflection towards this particular discussion or an answer, I would be more than happy to have you post a comment explaining what you think of his appearance.

  1. I think the main thing with the bush in the desert is to realize that the angel of the LORD appeared to Moses in "flames of fire" Ex3:2. The Lord was the fire not the bush. The bush was just a vessel used to contain the fire. Much like we are used when the Holy Spirit dwells in us. There was nothing special about this bush yet, it was used by God. We can be used by Him too when we let Him fill our lives.
God is shown as a fire at other times in the Bible too. example Ex 19:18 and Heb 12:29

  3. Also, the flame was used as a symbol of the Holy Spirit as well, on the the day of pentecost, recorded in Acts.
